View in Browser Economic Development News(letter) October 26th, 2023 An award-winning Economic Development Commission The Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission (COEDC) has received two 2023 Excellence in Economic Development Awards from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The silver award was bestowed specifically for the COEDC’s work in the Talent Development & Retention Category for the Connector Program and the bronze award for the the COEDC’s work in the Innovative Programs & Initiatives category for the Okanagan Young Professionals Collective. Learn more COEDC Hosts Familiarization Tour On October 2023, the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission, in partnership with Tourism Kelowna, hosted Regional District of Central Okanagan board members, regional elected officials, community partners and economic development officers on an agriculture and viticulture industry familiarization tour. Building off the success of tourism familiarization tours, the OKGo team adapted the concept to have an industry-specific focus to connect regional elected officials and partners with industry leaders in agriculture and viticulture. The purpose of the day was to provide a platform for industry leaders in the agriculture and viticulture sectors to share stories and information to deepen sector understanding for elected officials and partners. Our Connector Program is a formalized networking & integration initiative designed to broaden a job seeker’s network through one-on-one, in-person meetings with established business leaders in the region. Get onnected Q3 2023 Economic Indicators In an effort to keep the public and business community informed on the economy of the region, the COEDC releases the publicly available quarterly Economic Indicators Report highlighting key economic data for the Central Okanagan. The Q3 2023 Economic Indicators Report includes cumulative statistics for 9 key economic indicators for January through September 2023. Highlights reported by Statistics Canada saw the average unemployment rate from January to September 2023 decrease to 3.2% compared to 5.3% in the same period in 2022.
