LRC Talks: Art and Activism: We’re Exhausted and it’s Pandemic Ft. Very Special Guest Dr. Alifa Bandali

About this Event

The Laundry Room Collective brings you an opportunity to join us for a virtual, intimate chat regarding how tired we really are. Like, really tired. We are looking for other (possibly) tired people who also want to talk about and reflect on how tired they are, but like, want/need to keep putting in the work to be socially responsible, anti-racist, feminist, intersectional beings, and collectively compile relevant and helpful resources to lift eachother up and share knowledge. Also, did we mention it’s a pandemic? What does that even mean for our work and practices? How can we possibly fit all this into one event?

Look, we don’t have all the answers. We don’t even expect any one person to have all the answers, either. We’ve invited Alifa Bandali - who is GREAT, but also claims she doesn’t have all the answers - to tell us about her research and engage in conversation with us about art activism and how exhausting working through a pandemic is.

Interested in joining us? Participants should expect to have space to briefly share their own experiences, actively collaborate on a live document with links to resources, and share in the knowing that we are all just trying to be better. To keep the event approachable and intimate, limited space is available.

First come first serve, this is a free event.

Alifa Bandali is a lecturer at the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia Vancouver. She is currently teaching GRSJ 101: Introduction to Social Justice; GRSJ 300: Intersectional Approaches to Thinking Gender; and GRSJ 307: Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Popular Culture. Her research interests include: women, work and care in the Asia Pacific region, specifically in Southeast Asia; decolonial feminisms; feminist and creative activism and emotional labour.
